History
In 1963, Houston's Lambda Zeta Chapter organized a teenage group called the Archonettes. The Archonettes engaged in social, educational, and community service activities. As the name caught the attention of the national organization of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, the teenage group was constituted as the national senior-high youth auxillary. Currently, there are more than 100 Archonette groups nationwide.
Rho Chi Zeta Chapter’s Archonette Club was established on May 19, 2001 with seven young ladies. A prerequisite for membership in Rho Chi Zeta Chapter’s Archonette Club is completion of the U.P.L.I.F.T. Mentoring Program; a 10-week program designed to direct high school girls on a positive path as they journey through their teen years. At the conclusion of the Annual Finer Womanhood Blue Revue, “From Girls to Pearls,” the U.P.L.I.F.T. participants are extended an invitation to join the Archonette Club. Members of the Archonette Club forge mentoring relationships with Rho Chi Zeta Chapter (PXZ) members, strengthen leadership and communication skills, and learn the importance of education, community involvement and sisterhood.
The Archonettes of Rho Chi Zeta Chapter have participated in numerous service projects: Boys and Girls Club of Chester, City Team Ministries, Lupus Loop, Martin Luther King Day of Service, and more.
